Over the past few years, I’ve rekindled my love for reading. While I enjoy a light and easy romantic novel, there are times when I crave something more inspiring. Every time I visit a bookstore, I hope to find something that will leave me feeling motivated and ready to change my life. I’ve read several self-help books, and while some are okay, my favourite reads are the ones that shift my perspective on life. There’s nothing better than finishing a book that makes me want to grow, change, or see the world differently. If you feel the same, here are 4 books that will change your perspective on life (in my opinion).

The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying
I’m not sure if I originally searched for this book or just stumbled upon it in a shop, but I can say with certainty that it changed my life. I’ve read it multiple times now and recommend it to everyone. The author shares the stories of people she has met on their deathbeds, reflecting on their biggest regrets—things they did or didn’t do in life. It made me realise how many of us will have regrets and that we should take the leap and do what truly matters to us. The book moved me to tears more than once, which only speaks to how powerful it is. If you are looking for a book that touches your heart, whilst making you think about life, this one is for you.

The Alchemist
If you haven’t heard of The Alchemist, I’d be surprised—but no judgment! It’s a widely loved book, and I’ve noticed that many people I meet have read it. I’ve also seen that it’s popular among celebrities. In fact, I first heard about it through Will Smith. Its popularity makes sense, given its well-known message. The story follows a young boy travelling through North Africa in search of treasure. However, at its core, it’s a book about self-discovery and following one’s dreams.

Human kind
I picked up this book after quitting my job and spending all my savings on a three-week adventure across Europe. Its purpose is to remind us that humans are fundamentally good in a world that tells us we are bad. The author explores psychological studies on human behaviour, even tracing back to the days of Homo Sapiens. Social media and news outlets often highlight the worst in people, but this book offered a refreshing perspective on human kindness. If you want a book of hope in human behaviour, I’d highly recommend this read.

The Courage To Be Disliked
The majority of humans have probably felt like people dislike them at one point in their life. If you are anything like me, this may stick with you and you may struggle with being disliked. However, the story challenges these thoughts. The book is about a very long conversation between a philosophy professor and one of his pessimistic students. Throughout the book, the professor challenges the students thoughts and feelings towards being disliked. Now this book wasn’t the easiest read, so if you are just getting into reading again, be patient with it, but it should 100% be on your next read list.
