Learning how to paint is a valuable and calming hobby. Painting gives you an opportunity to get in touch with your creative side. Additionally you will find it therapeutic. - Cooking
Okay so I know that for some people cooking is a horrible and tedious task. But if we are being honest here, cooking is a basic and fundamental life skill that everyone should have. So how can one turn this into a hobby? Well besides the basic meals the truth is that there are many delicious and wonderful recipes out there that you can make. This is precisely what will make cooking a hobby that is fun and interesting for you.

- Learn to Bake
During peak lockdown when we were stuck in our homes with nothing to do. A new hobby that I learnt was baking. I was very new to baking and I had never done it before in my life. I can attest to this; baking is one of the most therapeutic hobbies out there. Of course it can be very stressful. But I can tell you that it was very satisfying. From choosing my ingredients, to following the steps (hardly) and to decorating my finished product. On your free time learn how to bake you will love it.
There are many great baking books out there, but this is one of my favorites which i recommend to people who want to start baking.
- Learn an Instrument
Learning a new instrument is probably one of the most underrated hobbies that I have on this list. That is because a majority of people think that they are too old to learn an instrument. I truly believe that as long as you are physically capable, it is never too late to learn an instrument. This is another great choice for a hobby for many reasons.
Firstly, you learn valuable skill that is also enjoyable. But also it will teach you how to be a more patient person. Trust me on this one, you will learn how to be more patient. But above all teaching yourself or taking lessons is something that you will find rewarding.
- Learn a Language.
Seeing as if we are honestly looking at different hobbies that one can do at home. I have to admit that learning a new language is a good choice but a very challenging one. This a good hobby to pick if you want to be challenged and want to try something new.
To make the most of this new hobby it is important that you choose a language that you are passionate about. I went with Spanish as research said it was one of the easiest languages to learn. But also, I was passionate about learning Spanish as it will make travelling to Spanish speaking countries easier.
- Beginner Knitting.
I learnt how to knit when I was younger because my aunt was passionate about it and used to knit amazing things. Naturally, seeing her knit made me want to learn how to knit as well. Over the years I have continued this hobby and let me tell you. One of the benefits of learning how to knit is the calming effect it has on your mind. You get an opportunity to relax and focus on one thing.

- Reading
Reading is a fantastic hobby to pick up when you are at home. How many times do you ever think to just pick up a book as opposed to binge watching that show. It is possible to read for your pleasure. This is something that I recently started doing again. I have to credit Book-Tok for this. I feel myself getting smarter every time I choose to read a book rather than scroll on twitter.
- Journalling
Journalling is another great hobby that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Journalling is simply writing down your thoughts and feelings to understand them a bit more clearly. If you are a person that struggles with stress this will be a great activity to help you manage and relieve stress.
There are many resources and creative ways that you can use to help you to start journalling.
- Blogging
This list would not be a list without me mentioning one of my personal favourite hobbies which is blogging. I started blogging many years ago to write about my passions and share them with others. However it is only when I came across BySophiaLee on YouTube that I started to take blogging seriously.
I started to take this passion of mine seriously through her guidance. I can honestly say that blogging is something that has improved my mental heath massively. It gave me something to focus on and to be passionate about. I dedicate so much of my time on my blog, and it helps me to alleviate stress by focusing on something that I am passionate about.
