Where is the cheapest place to spend the winter?

Not all holidays have to be expensive, it is very possible to go away for an affordable price. Of course it will depend on how long you go for, but it is doable. With multiple websites out there, such as booking.com, it is easy to compare prices for accommodation and find the perfect destination for a cheap place to spend the winter.

The recommendations below range from summer getaways to snowy towns. Some may be better for weekend trips and others you may want to go away for a longer period of time.

Canary Islands

If you are looking to escape the cold this winter, then a great, hot destination would be to head to the Canary Islands. There are multiple places here such as Tenerife or Lanzarote. Filled with sun, sea and great prices, this is an excellent choice if you are just looking for somewhere with sun to relax and lounge during the winter time. A lot of the hotels here offer all-inclusive, so it is the perfect lazy holiday. Alternatively, there are some activities that you can find using websites like get your guide and compare rates.

Morocco

If you want a destination with culture, good food and decent weather then Morocco may be a good choice for you. With a range of different activities, such as the desert or a Moroccan Hammam, then this beautiful country is a great option for a warm escape in the winter. There are multiple towns in Morocco that you can visit, such as Marrakesh, Casablanca, and Anti-Atlas. If you don’t want to spend your time exploring the entire time, then be sure to book a place with a pool so you can just lounge around.

Zakopane, Poland

Not many people may know of this small town in Poland, but it is a great destination if you are looking for a snowy trip. It is located around 2 hours by car from Krakow, Poland. I went in November and it was filled with snow, making it the perfect winter destination. The town has a ski resort which is open from December. Make sure you check online for accurate dates and times if you do wish to go skiing. If not, you can spend the time shopping and walking in the town, trying food and drinking mulled wine. We stayed around 15-30minute from the town (by walking) in a cute, cosy apartment. I’d highly recommend this accommodation as it had everything we needed and had excellent facilities.

Prague, Czech Republic

Another European country to visit in the winter time that is deemed affordable is Prague. The weather may be a bit on the colder side so if you are looking for cold destination in a city, then this is for you. If you head in December, you may get to see some Christmas markets. Moreover, if you are a history lover then you will love this place. To make it more affordable, you could do this trip as a weekend getaway as I am sure you will be able to do the majority of the site seeing within that time frame.

Hoi An, Vietnam

So this one may be cheating a bit. The flights to Hoi An could potentially be pricy if you are flying from places like Europe, but the accommodations and food are quite cheap compared to most places. This location is a great destination if you are looking for a warm destination with lots of culture and great adventures. Although the city of Hoi An is quite busy, there are lots of day trips that can be arranged through hostels and hotels or other websites. I would recommend going away for at least a week with this destination, but like I said, the accommodation is not overly expensive so it should still be okay.

So there we have it, multiple destinations that are cheap (to an extent) for your next winter holiday. If you’d like more tips and recommendations, check out some of our other travel posts. We have a range of city guides, travel essentials and more!
