The first Romance book that I read and rated five stars all across the board was Mariana Zapata’s All Rhodes Lead Here. I read this book after many disappointing booktok recommendation. But, I have to give it to booktok, this was a great book recommendation as it introduced me to one of my favourite romance authors.
Why I love Mariana Zapata Books
I love romance books, they are one of my favourite book genres. However, I am very picky when it comes to the ones I like to read. My preference, is well written, with minimal to no spice, and a good plot. When it comes go tropes, I have a few favourites, but the most important for me is slow burn. Anyone who knows Marianna Zapata’s book, know, that she is the queen of slow burn.
In Zapata’s book, we get to read good storylines, that give you the opportunity to follow the main characters love story. The love is genuine and believable, followed by good character development. There’s nothing more annoying than reading about a character that does not change or grow by the end.
Is there spice in Mariana Zapata books?
I can only speak for the books which I read. But, generally speaking, Zapata’s books are usually slow burns with very minimal spice scenes. Usually, these spice scenes are towards the end of the book, which are very skip-able if you don’t like reading spice like me.
So, let’s get into Mariana Zapata books, that I have read:

All Rhodes Lead Here
Aurora De La Torre knows moving back to a place that was once home isn’t going to be easy. Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be. But a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart.”
One of my favourite things about this book was the authentic way in which the romance develops between Aurora and our main male character. One of my favourite romance books that I have read to this day.
The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata
“Vanessa Mazur knows she’s doing the right thing. She shouldn’t feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organisation was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary. But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she’s beyond shocked.”
This is my second favourite Zapata book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The angst and slow burn was top tier. I’m not usually a fan of grumpy/ sunshine trope but it was done really well in this book.
Wait for it
“Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn’t know what she is doing half the time. Being a grown-up wasn’t supposed to be so hard. With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, and more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for. Except for a boyfriend. Or a husband… But who needs that?”
This is the third book I read by Mariana which did not disappoint at all. I find myself thinking about this book a lot. The plot was engaging, and it was fun escaping into their little world.
From Lukov with Love
“Jasmine finds herself working with the arrogant, handsome idiot who has been tormenting her for the last decade. But it will all be worth it as she gets another chance at competing in the sport she loves. Faced with a year of all-day training sessions, and endless one-on-one time with her aggravating new partner. Jasmine learns that she might have to reconsider everything about her figure skating career – including Ivan Lukov himself.”
I have to admit, that this was not my favourite Zapata. It is a enemies to lovers sports romance, and with close proximity. If this your favourite trope you will enjoy it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my favourite Zapata book. But I know many people really loved it, so don’t rule it out.
