I love all things romance whether it is books shows or movies. But my only stipulation when it comes to Romance books is stories with a plot. I can’t for the life of me, enjoy a romance book with no plot. I love following complex characters with relatable lives in romance books. Here are my Best Romance Books…with An Actual Plot.

This list consists of my two favourite authors when it comes to the Romance genre.
All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata
“Aurora De La Torre knows moving back to a place that was once home isn’t going to be easy. Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be. But a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart.”
One of my favourite things about this book was the authentic way in which the romance develops between Aurora and our main male character. One of my favourite romance books that I have read to this day.
Wait For It by Mariana Zapata
“Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn’t know what she is doing half the time. Being a grown-up wasn’t supposed to be so hard. With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, and more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for. Except for a boyfriend. Or a husband… But who needs that?”
This is the third book I read by Mariana which did not disappoint at all. The plot was engaging, and it was fun escaping into their little world.
The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata
“Vanessa Mazur knows she’s doing the right thing. She shouldn’t feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary.
She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary. But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she’s beyond shocked.” Another great read, Mariana Zapata is the queen if angst and slow burn.
Abby Jimenez, her books just complete me
Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez
This book follows Alexis an ER doctor whose wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons. However, Alexis doesn’t need glory or fame. But, with every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she’s discovering just what’s really important.
Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already trouble. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.
Yours Truly is set in the same world as Part of Your world. Jimenez knows how to create characters that make you feel so many emotions. Her characters embody a selflessly and kindness that linger in our minds long after the book ends. This book is definitely one to read, and my favourite in the series.
Just for Summer by Abby Jimenz
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it’s now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They’ll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea . . . and it just might work.
Emma hadn’t planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.
Just for the Summer is the third book in this series. It’s another favourite mine as it deals with complex family issues.
Beach Read By Emily Henry
January is a hopeless romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engaged in a summer-long challenge that may upend everything they think about happily ever after.
Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast. They’re polar opposites.
In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they’re living in neighbouring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer’s block.
Emily Henry’s books are well-known in the romance world. She creates real characters who are relatable and enjoyable to read about.
