What is Dry Skin?
There are a lot of factors that contribute to a person having Dry skin. These factors can range from the environment, genetics, humidity, excessive washing, and changing seasons. Building a regimented skincare routine to help with moisture and keep your skin hydrated is essential. However, remember that skin care routines are not one size fit all. So make sure to use products that work best for you or consult your dermatologist for expert opinion. So, lets look at the best skincare routine for Dry skin 2024.
Morning Skin Routine
Step 1:
The first step in the routine is washing your face with a water-based cleanser. Some good cleansers include the Cerve Hydrating Cleanser, Cetaphil, and La Roche-Posay for dry skin. Ultimately, you want to pick a cleanser that works best for your dry skin.
A pro tip for dry skin is washing your face only with warm water in the morning. Then in the evening double cleansing with an oil, cream or water based cleanser.
Step 2: Serum
Using a serum in your skincare routine is important. For dry skin, you want to choose a hydrating serum that provides moisture and protects from environmental factors like pollen. As someone who suffers from hay fever, a good skin protectant is important for me.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps to stimulate collagen production in the skin. It is well-known as one of the best anti-aging ingredients you could use. Additionally, Vitamin C also aids with brightening your complexion, helps with fine lines, and many other benefits.
How to Use Vitamin C
After washing your face with a cleanser or just warm water. Apply your Vitamin C serum to dry skin. Make sure your skin is dry as Vitamin C can be very irritating.
If you find that Vitamin C is not agreeing with your skin make sure to discontinue usage. Not everyone’s skin responds well to vitamin C so shelve it if that’s the case for you.
Best Vitamin C Serum
Finding a good Vitamin C serum can works and is affordable can be challenging. For affordable serums, it is best to look at your local drugstore.
When it Comes to the Best here are some highly recommended:
- SkinCeuticals Vitamn C £165
- La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C10 Serum for Sensitive Skin 30ml £40.50
- Paula’s Choice C15 Super Booster £52
- Vichy LIFTACTIV Vitamin C £42.50
- CerVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C £15
Step 3: Moisturiser
Moisturisers are extremely important for any skin care routine. Whether you have dry or oily skin, everyone needs to add a moisturiser to their skincare routine.
For Dry Skin, I always opt for emollients as they are good moisturising treatments. They cover the skin with a protective film to trap moisture, which makes them great for your skincare routine.
Some good emollients are Aveeno, Cetraben, E45, Epaderm, and more.
Step 4: SUNSCREEEEN!
Sunscreen is pivotal for your skincare routine. You are supposed to wear sunscreen every single day, and in every season believe it or not. Even more, if your skincare routine includes AHA, Retinoids, BHA, or any other acids. You need to wear sunscreen for protection.
There are many benefits of using sunscreen mainly that it protects us from damaging (UV) rays. Other benefits of sunscreen include; the prevention of signs of aging, reduce risk of skin cancer, prevent skin discoloration, and reduce inflammation.
Best Sunscreen to use, SPF should range between 30-50 and reapplied every 2 hours ideally.
Night Time Skin Care Routine
Step 5: Cleanser
For your evening routine, the first step is using a cleanser to wash your face. I observed during summer, that I got a lot of blackheads due to product buildup. So make sure to use an oil, water, or cream-based cleanser. Double cleansing is not a necessity but is something that you can do if it works for your skin.
Step 6: Retinol
Retinol is another great addition to your skincare routine in the evenings after you have cleansed your face. Retinol helps slow down the breakdown of collagen and increases skin elasticity. If it is your first time using Retinol, make sure to incorporate it into your skincare once a week and gradually build up tolerance to it. Your skin will likely purge in the process. Just remember that it can take several weeks to see results.
Step 7: Moisturiser
The last step is moisturising your skin and you are all set.
