Most people will probably agree with me, that planning your birthday can be the most stressful thing ever. In my teen years, my go to birthday celebration was a dinner at a fancy restaurant. I have had many birthday meals in restaurants that now the idea does not appeal to me anymore. However, I still consider birthday meals a great way of celebrating, especially when paired with an activity during the day. In this post, however, I want to talk about how to decorate a cake table for a birthday at home.
For my birthday last year, I celebrated in New York City. This is something that I had to work really hard for, because as you can imagine NYC is super expensive. I had a fantastic time with friends and I can’t wait to visit again. But, I did not have that kind of budget this year. So I chose instead, to have an intimate meal at home with my friends.
I can honestly say that this was one of the best birthdays I’ve had in a long time. I wanted to spend this birthday with my close friends in our own space and eat good food, dance, laugh and have an amazing time together. If this is something that you have in mind, here are some ideas on how to decorate a cake table for your birthday at home.
5 Birthday party Table Decoration Ideas
1. Choose your Colour Scheme
Having some kind of colour scheme is really important to guide your ideas for the party table. This year I was in the mood for something very girly and fun, so my main colours were pink and gold. My friends were pleasantly surprised as I only ever wear black, but my goal for this new age is moving away from my usual comfort zones.
2. Balloons, Balloons, Balloons
Balloons are an absolute necessity if you want to transform your home to fit your birthday party table. The placement of these balloons is vital. We got helium balloons which stuck to the ceiling, this made the room look enchanting and inviting.
We also added mini photos of me and my friends on the balloon ribbons. This was a great idea as dining room had pictures of my friends scattered around on balloon. This made the whole thing feel intimate and cosy.
3. Flowers
My biggest and top priority when I went shopping for my table decorations were flowers. I couldn’t have a party table without some flowers on it, as they are arguably the most decoration needed on a cake table. Flowers add an elegance and warmth to the table as they are so lovely to see. The tie the whole table together making is aesthetically pleasing not only to see but photograph for your pictures.
A mixture of real and faux flowers will do the trick. I underestimated the art of finding good flowers, so I settled for faux flowers which I got from the Range. They definitely worked well and made my party table look beautiful.
4. Candles
Candles are another great decoration to add to your birthday party table. I found that the candles and candle holders I got added a rustic finish to the table.
When using candles or balloons please prioritise safety. Make sure to place your candles in a candle holder to prevent accidents from happening. I can’t emphasis enough, the need to be vigilant when it comes fire safety.
5. Plates and Cutlery
Other table decorations to consider include plates, bowls, cutlery, wine glasses, and serviette’s. My colour palette was pink and gold so I made sure to get cutlery and plates that matched this vibe. You don’t have to get anything fancy, what you have at home may work. In other words, work with what you have, as this will help you to cut down unnecessary costs.
Other things to consider for your birthday dinner celebration at home:
1. Food
My plan for my at home birthday celebration was to have gorgeous cake table decoration, great music and good food. So, the idea I had was to order different takeout to save me doing the cooking. This turned out to be an affordable plan and a hassle free option. This idea works well if you only have a small group of people around.
2. Snacks
Though my main meal was takeout, I still made sure to get plenty of snacks for my guests. My friends made a charcuterie board, we had finger food, plenty of drinks and other snacks.
3. Cake 🎂
I had a beautiful Victoria sponge cake made for me. I went with a heart cake design that was all black. Very intentional on my part to have a girly pink cake table, contrasted with an all black heart cake. Some may say it’s poetic, I say it was delicious!
O’L Final Thoughts
REMEMBER TO HAVE A GOOD TIME
My most important step for you is to remember to enjoy your birthday celebration. I know pre-birthday stress is a real thing. But my top advice to you is fight against that and aim to have a good time celebrating another year. Seeing another birthday is and will always a blessing.
I hope that your birthday party table decorations go to plan. Enjoy your birthday, and don’t forget table safety!
