Is Florence worth visiting 2025

Florence is the region’s capital city in Tuscany- it is situated at the heart of it. The city is renowned for its renaissance, art, culture and architecture, including the famous landscape Duomo Cathedral. There are many things to do and enjoy in this city which include Italian cuisine. So, in short, Florence is definitely worth visiting.

Florence- History and Fun Facts.

The city of Florence has a rich and interesting history that will make your visit worth it. Florence was founded as a Roman military colony in the 1st century BC. The city achieved prominence in finance, learning, commerce and arts between the 14th and 16th centuries.

The glory of this wonderful city can be found in its past- and can be relieved through its famous landmarks today. Florence is also known for its famous cultural giants which include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dante, Machiavelli, Galileo, and its most renowned rulers- the Medici family.

The Renaissance

The Italian 15th-century revival of art and literature began in Renaissance Florence. The revival was fuelled by wealthy patrons and commissions from the Catholic Church. The city of Florence has retained many of the famous artworks in its galleries and palaces that you can still visit today.

Things to do in Florence

1. Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiora (The Duomo).

The Duomo was built in the 15th century and was the largest church in the world at the time- now it is the 3rd biggest in Europe. There are many ways to explore the Church, which include climbing the top of the dome- all 463 steps.  The steps are very narrow and can be challenging for some, however, if you can climb them you will not regret it.

2. Uffizi Gallery

If you are interested in exploring Renaissance art the Uffizi gallery is the place to be. There is an array of beautiful art to see that can last you hours to see and revel in. The architecture of the building is exceptional- and worth the visit.

3. Galleria dell ’Accademia

The birth of the gallery dates back to 1784 when the Grand Duke of Tuscany Pietro Leopoldo reorganized the Academy of the Arts of Drawing. The most famous piece of art in the museum is Michelangelo’s ‘David’ carved out of marble 500 years ago. It is a must-see!

4. Arno River

The Arno River is the second most important river in central Italy after the Tiber. It is the birthplace of Florence’s rich history of textile production. It is worth visiting- as a bonus, you can bike along the Arno for a fuller experience.

5. Piazzale Michaelangelo

The Piazzale Michelangelo is a great point (literally) for spectacular views. You can look over the city walls in the south, then Duomo, the Uffizi, Arnolfo and the Tower of the Palazzo Vecchio. Additionally, there is always a group of people waiting to see the sunset which makes it worth the visit.

6. Certaldo

For a stunning experience of Tuscany country life, you can take a trip to Certaldo. The city dates from Etruscan-Roman times, and it is the native home to Giovanni Boccaccio one of the greatest poets of Italian literature.

7. Find the best Gelato in Town.

You cannot visit Florence and indulge in gelato ice cream. My best advice for delicious ice cream is to try the best place for you. There are many suggestions out there, but you honestly cannot go wrong with many of the places there.

8. Fotoautomatica

Fotoautomatica’s are photo booths littered around Florence. It is easy to find them, the best way is typing on Google to find the nearest one to you. Alternatively, walking around the city while exploring is another way to find the photo booth.

9. Giunti Odeon

Giunti Odeon in Florence is a bookstore-cinema nestled between the stunning Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza Strozzi. This bookstore-cinema is a unique, beautiful and inspiring place that you can enter for free.

O’L Final Thoughts.

Yes, Florence is worth visiting. There are many things to do and see in this city. If you love history, culture, art, and great food this is the place to be.
