I recently visited Hallstatt in Austria, and I wanted to share my honest review from my trip. I wanted to do so because I first saw this place on Instagram reels and I was immediately sold over. But we all know that what we see on social media can be different to real life. So, if you have your doubts, and want to know if Hallstatt Austria is worth visiting, you are in the right place.
How did I get there?
I personally booked a trip to this fairytale town using GetYourGuide, and went with Panorama tours. Our tour guide was very engaging, and inclusive to English and German speakers. So, we got to learn a lot about Hallstatt, Salzburg and Wolfgangsee. I’m personally a history buff, so it was fascinating to learn all these different facts.
The downside of this tour is that it’s only half a day. There’s so much I ended up not seeing as the tour is only a few hours. You are made aware of this before you book the tour. If you want to explore, do activities, and spend the day there. My suggestion is for you to book a whole day tour, or use public transport to get there.
Instagram vs Reality
Hallstatt definitely does not fall into the instagram vs reality line. This place is as striking in real life, as it is on instagram reels. I was definitely not disappointed by Hallstatt in real life. If you going to Hallstatt to simply see this fairytale town in real life, and capture beautiful photos, you won’t be disappointed.
Are there places for Food and Drink?
There are a few restaurants where you can buy food and drinks. My whole trip to Salzburg and Hallstatt was a mini pastry tour, so whenever I got the chance to eat, I got exactly that.
The only downside is that things are generally expensive in Austria, so I found that I ended up paying a lot of money for my meals there. If you are on a budget consider bringing something to eat.
Things to do in Hallstatt, Austria
There are many things to do in Hallstatt, which is why I recommend going for the day. I have written a blog post on things to do in Hallstatt Austria, so check it out for some ideas on things to do.
So… is it worth it
Hallstatt Austria is definitely worth visiting if you love a bit of history, nature, and want to capture some scenic views. A day is enough to see Hallstatt, I wouldn’t recommend more than that.
Important things to remember
Please be respectful to the locals, there are almost 800 people who live Hallstatt. It may be tourist attraction for some. But, it’s someone else home:
> Be respectful by minding your noise levels.
> Pick up your rubbish, do not litter please.
> Don’t knock or try and enter people’s homes for any reason.
Happy and safe Travels✨
