If you are looking to visit Italy this year, you may find it difficult to choose a place because there are so many wonderful places. Honestly, I get it, from Florence to Venice to Rome, each place offers such a different atmosphere, it may be hard to choose. If you are thinking about visiting Rome, then you may be asking yourself ‘is Rome still worth visiting?’.
Rome is a great short city break if you do not have much time and offers lot’s of history. It has a variety of activities to do, multiple restaurants and spectacular sites to explore. Let’s dive into these in more depth.

Food and drink
As you may know, Italy is extremely famous for pasta, wine and pizza. Therefore, there should be no surprise that Rome has an extensive amount of restaurants for you to try during your stay. If you visit the main centre, there are hundreds of restaurants suitable for tourists. However, these may be more expensive than the ones out of the centre which are just as good.
Alongside this, you can also do some wine tasting in Rome. Although Rome does not have any vineyards, there are several wine shops that have wine from vineyards, such as the Tuscan countryside. Or if you’d rather, Get Your Guide offers several food tours on. Moreover, you can book to make your own pasta which will leave you feeling full and happy.
Activities
Rome is home to many incredible sites which will never leave you bored.
- The Coliseum – this is something I highly recommend doing as it is one of the Seven Wonders of the world!! Book a tour or visit solo and take your time viewing the famous site which gets countless of visitors each year. If you want to explore more, there is also a garden and the Roman Forums to look around too.
- The Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps – I have put these two famous iconic places together because they are not far from each other. The fountain is such a beautiful structure you cannot miss it! The steps hold great history as they were created to connect the Spanish Embassy with the Church at the top (known as the Trinità dei Monti church.) Just a pre-warning, you cannot eat on the steps.
- Shopping – Central Rome offers a range of luxury shops to visit or browse during your free time. Whether you have the money to spend or just enjoy some window shopping, you will not be disappointed.
- Walking Tour – If you want to know more about Rome, it’s history and what it has to offer, then why not book a walking tour. This way you will be able to see all of the sites whilst learning about why Rome is still one of the most famous cities in the World.
- Piazza del Campidoglio – This museum showcases renowned artworks and sculptures, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in breathtaking art for hours.
In conclusion YES Rome is still worth visiting! Even if you only come for the weekend, there is so much history here that it cannot be missed. I don’t think you need long here as a lot of the activities can be done in a day. Happy travels 🙂
