It’s Christmassssss! Yes, it is finally here again, like every year, which means it’s time for the cosy nights in, drinking a hot chocolate, watching your favourite Christmas movie. There are so many Christmas movies out there to watch that it can sometimes be overwhelming to choose the perfect movie. Not to fear, I am here to give you some Christmas films to watch. Whenever I watch a good Christmas film, it puts me in a great mood for the winter season. I want you to feel the same. So, here are the best Christmas films to watch this December.
Love actually
Let’s start with a British classic. This spectacular film is filled with laughter, saucy scenes and some more emotional ones. It truly provides all of the feelings in one go. The film follows several people’s lives over the Christmas period and shows the audience truly what love is really all about. If you haven’t watched it already, I think it’s time you do. If you have watched it before, I think it’s time you watch it again. It truly is a great film to get in the mood for Christmas.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Now, this may be seen as a child’s movie, but it is a film I absolutely love. Maybe because Jim Carrey plays the Grinch so well, or maybe it’s the quirkiness of the characters. I’m not sure what it is, I just love it. I find it funny and sweet and it is just an easy watch. If you are looking for a cute film to watch with your friends, family or by yourself, then this movie is the one for you.
Soul
I am not sure if this really counts as a Christmas film, but the reason I am adding it to my list is because the first time I watched it was with my family on Christmas day. The film was more on the emotional side of things. It really had me thinking about my life and what is important to me. I know this may not seem like a typical heart-warming movie, but I really loved this film. I would highly recommend having a sit down with some hot beverage and watching this film this December!
Bridget Jones’ diary
Perhaps I am being a bit biased now as I am British and I’m providing you with another classic British film. Following the life of Bridget Jones, a single, 30 something year old in London, who is ready to find love. She finds herself in a bit of a love-triangle which she has to navigate. It is a great Christmas rom-com movie to watch by yourself or with friends.
The muppet Christmas Carol
This is exactly what you think it is. It is the traditional Christmas Carol story, with Scrooge, but with the muppets. I’ve chosen this one because the regular one can be a bit depressing (in my opinion). I need colour and laughter and lightness with most of my Christmas films. The muppets lightens the story up a bit because, well, they’re the muppets. A perfect movie to watch this Christmas.
Elf
I know some people have some mixed feelings about Elf, but I think it is a great Christmas comedy to watch if you want to have a bit of a laugh. It is another great easy watch where you do not have to think too deeply whilst watching the film. For me, it provides a warm, fun feeling.
The Santa Clause 1, 2 and 3
My last Christmas movie to watch this December involves 3 movies. This is the best Christmas film to watch if you are looking to binge a series of films. The Santa Clause 1, 2 and 3 follows a ‘regular’ guy who’s world is about the change. You get to watch the characters grow up, which brings a nostalgic feeling to the films. A much loved, easy watch, Christmas film for you to put on this December.
So there you have it. Yes, this list is extremely biased. I’ve probably missed a few extra films, but if I said every single Christmas movie I loved, then I think we would be here for hours. I think a lot of these films are in my opinion, the best, because I grew up watching them. They bring back a truly magical feeling of Christmas for me. I hope that they bring that same feeling with you. Merry Christmas and happy watching!
