Located in Southern Europe, Malta boasts fantastic weather, stunning beaches, and a strong focus on tourism. It’s no surprise that many traveler’s choose this destination for a warm and enjoyable getaway. As a small Island, it is possible to explore the country in a couple of days which is good if you are trying to save money or just want a quick break. As someone who visited Malta for 3 days, I found myself being able to navigate the island quite easily and was able to do all the activities I wanted to do within the short amount of time I had. It is for that reason I suggest Malta for only a few days (preferably in the summer). So what is there to do on the Island?

History and culture
- Valetta: The capital of Malta is called Valetta; a beautiful, historic town with lots of culture. Stoned walls and beautiful structure surrounds the capital. It will have you feeling like you have gone back in time 1000s of years. You can spend a few hours walking around here and learning about the history of Malta. This is a great way to start off your trip.
- St John’s Cathedral: If you are into history and want more of what is to offer, then check out St Johns Cathedral. The architecture and design of the Cathedral is absolutely stunning, it will take your breath away. You can purchase tickets on the website for around 15 euros and do an audio tour if you’d like to learn more about the cathedral.
- Mdina: Located more in the central of Malta is the abandoned former capital city, Mdina. Known as the ‘Silent City’, you can spend a couple of hours wandering the streets, learning about the history and taking in the historical sites. You need to buy tickets to explore the area, and you can also book a tour to learn more about its history.
Beaches and the Sea
- Blue lagoon: If you are going to Malta in the summer then you definitely need to spend one of the days at the blue lagoon. There are lots of boat tours that will take you off the island. It can get a bit crowded during peak season due to the blue lagoon being a small island, but the crystal blue sea is worth it.
- Gozo: If the Blue Lagoon is not enough for you, head to the neighbouring island of Gozo. The island is less busy and crowded compared to Malta. Depending on the boat tour you choose, you will likely have a couple of hours exploring this island. Ensure you are back to the ferry port before departure as you do not want to get stuck on the Island.
- Beaches: If you’d rather skip the hassle of booking a tour and enjoy more flexibility, why not visit one of the island’s many beaches instead? With over 20 beaches to choose from, you’re sure to find one close to where you’re staying. Plus, visiting a beach gives you the freedom to stay as long as you like before heading off to your next adventure.

Random fun
- Cat Park: If you find yourself near St Julian’s bay and you are a big cat lover, then I’d highly recommend visiting a local park in Malta that is dedicated to stray cats. This park is mainly for the cats, but the public are allowed to walk through. Malta has a lot of stray cats on the Island and one thing the country did was create a local park for the cats. Locals often provide food and shelter for the cats, allowing them to roam around freely, but also allowing them to have a place to sleep safely at night.
- Popeye Village: You may be familiar with Popeye, the iconic TV character from the 1900s. If so, consider visiting Popeye’s Village—the original film set from the 1980s, preserved on the island as a popular tourist attraction. This is an especially good place to visit with friends and families. From live entertainment to thrilling water activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
There is definitely more than 8 things to do on the Island, but choosing what to do in a short amount of time can be stressful. Hopefully this list has given you some inspiration for your adventure! Happy travels! 🙂
